ABOUT
A sleeping child has nightmares that they are being attacked by their own stuffed toy animals.
As the child tosses and turns under the protection of the blankets, their arms and legs are revealed and become critical weak points that must be defended!
Defend the child at all costs from waves of enemies (4 types!) and be sure to use the power-ups (7 types!) when they drop. How many "dream" rounds can you complete?

Set up an AWS EC2 instance running Perforce
-
Generated the "winning" concept during team planning, and took lead on design while encouraging teammates input for expansion on ideas
-
Main areas of focus outside of project coordination were game design and Blueprint scripting:
-
Game loop (menu flows)
-
Child "limb" system (randomized movement)
-
Uses data table values to increase difficulty (limb exposure) as player completes rounds
-
-
Art direction and asset integration
-
SFX editing and implementation
-
Cinematic implementation
-
Bug fixes

Another awesome game jam experience!
-
If it ain't broke don't fix it; the strategies I applied in the LaSalle Game Jam were utilized in a similar way here (simple core mechanics and a clear product vision).
-
With 6 devs this time around, our team was able to scale up from the inital idea in a beautifully agile fashion. Our 3D Artists had plenty of time to revise and polish. I had ~4 hours to lock-in on the SFX, multiple VFX passes were done, and Blueprints were cleaned up and optimized. In other words, we had time for the little details that add that extra punch and prevent nasty bugs!

REFLECTIONS
-
It was an awesome experience; for many of us, our first game jam!
-
Be comfy with a lengthy planning phase. A clearly defined execution plan ensures all members can envision the final product from the outset and this translates into all departments communicating effortlessly during production.
-
Our tight controls and presentation scored with the judges who couldn't spend too long with each game. With ours, they could quickly grasp the mechanics and project vision, and appreciated the overall polish and cohesive nature of the final product.

Game design discussions and additions, notably the hazardous radioactive clouds which cause player to pass out when within their bounds for an extended period.

Main area of contribution was SFX - design, editing and implementation via Blueprints.
REFLECTIONS
-
Largest team and longest jam timeline to-date made for a relatively relaxed development experience
-
GMTK voting system heavily favours in-browser games (Unity, Godot). UE projects are large and require downloading extra packages (Microsoft C++ Redistributable x64) when user doesn't have any UE engine versions locally installed. A good motivator to revisit C#!
